O Christmas tree, O Christmas tree,
Thy candles shine out brightly!
O Christmas tree, O Christmas tree,
Thy candles shine out brightly!

Each bough doth hold its tiny light,
That makes each toy to sparkle bright.
O Christmas tree, O Christmas tree,
Thy candles shine out brightly!

For a few years now we have had a fibre optic tree that has come apart in two particular places making it incredibly easy to store as well as put together. With a separate branch selection to the main trunk it really was a quick but painless job to put the tree together. The additional bonus of a fibre optic tree is that you don’t really need any extra lights unless you want to really go for the blinding effect that some lights have.

This year, things have changed – not only has our beautiful fibre optic friend no longer with us we have had to enter the realm of lights, lights and more lights. After moving on from the swift farewell of our previous tree we decided in our infinite wisdom that we would purchase a real tree. We bundled up against the elements (we don’t live in Alaska so it was a coat and scarf!) and headed out to find our Christmas tree. I don’t know about you but it really is a very personal experience finding the tree that is just right for your household whether it is real or not. There are many factors that have to be taken into account – height, weight, girth etc (get your minds out of the gutter!).

After a short drive we arrived at Woodcote Green Garden Centre & Nurseries which is not only a mouthful to say but when you are trying to navigate whilst being jostled here there and everywhere by a weekend crowd isn’t fun in the slightest. You may or may not know that I am not the best in a crowd that has no purpose so I tried to steer the Madre and myself the best I could to find our darling tree before someone got hurt. Through the farm shop, past the children breaking ornaments, around the tempting smells of the cafe and past the reindeer and we were where we wanted and needed to be.

Finally we found our tree – decorations are the next step!

Have you got your Christmas tree yet?

Do you have a favourite film? Here’s another question for you – do you have a favourite Christmas film?

For as long as I can remember it has been a tradition in my household to watch films on Christmas Day with champagne, snacks and blankets. This year will be a completely different story, not only because dad is no longer with us but I am working throughout the Christmas period. So, when I have finished my shifts I will be snuggled up with my Champagne and/or Hot Chocolate with the fluffiest blanket I can find watching one of the following films.

Narnia: The Lion, The Witch & The Wardrobe (The BBC Version)

The Snowman

Father Christmas

Miracle on 34th Street

Elf

The Holiday

All of the links above are for the cheapest versions that I could find which thankfully are all from Amazon – so if you have prime it is the perfect place to get that cheeky Christmas film before the big day! (This is not an AD).

I don’t think any of the films on the list need any introduction or explanation. My absolute favourite would have to be Narnia and although many may not have seen the BBC version it really is the best version around (the special FX are non existent!) and it was one that we would watch over and over back in the days of VHS whilst all chilled out together.

What are your favourite Christmas films?

And why?!

Is it really Sunday if you haven’t had a cuppa, run the bath (hot shower for those without a tub), stayed in your PJ’s to drink your tea and of course last but by no means least – PUT A FACE MASK ON?! Sunday’s are all about self care and really making yourself feel good both inside and out. As I have been feeling incredibly rough over the past week it is definitely time to up the ante and not only go into a Christmas overdrive but time for a bit of that festive cheer to seep into SELF CARE SUNDAY!

BLOGMAS DAY 3 IS ALL ABOUT SELF CARE SUNDAY!

BlogMas Day 3 Self Care Sunday, BlogMas, Christmas, Festive, Festive Season, Holiday Season, Holiday Spirit, Christmas Spirit, Holly Jolly Christmas, Christmas Time, Self Care, Self Care Sunday, Sundays, Skin Care, Self Love, Positivity, Blogger, Blog A Book Etc, Fay

Today I will be doing ALL of the following in no specific order, but at some point during the day they will all happen at least once. At least once I hear you cry – YES! At least!

Scrub & Moisturise myself from head to toe

Have a hot bath with a bath bomb or two!

Cleanse, tone and polish my face

Face Mask

Brew a cafetière of amazing smelling & tasting coffee

Make a hot chocolate with all the trimmings

Listen to my festive audio book

Have a catch up with a friend

Watch a Christmas movie

As I said there are things on that list that I will be doing more than once, for instance the coffee is a no brainer and the face mask is a close second to that. I am going to make every effort to just enjoy today and make it as about feeling great as I possibly can. I may even take a trip to the closest health food shop (I’m sure there is a whole foods in Wandsworth now!) and see if they have anything inspiring. On that note I am off to make myself a matcha shot following by a wake up shot (Ginger, Turmeric & OJ!).

How are you taking care of your self today?

I’d love to see your self care #selfies on insta, I know I will take a couple!

It’s BlogMas Day 2 – You wanna know what’s on my Christmas list?!

When you think of a Christmas list there are only two questions that usually come to mind. Have you been naughty or nice – am I right?! Well, this isn’t the same sort of Christmas list. This particular list of more along the lines of things that I want to do before the actual day and all of the festivities die down. So, let’s get down to business

Make Christmas Cocktails

Every year I say it and never really get round to it due to a significant lack of time. If I disregard the majority of the things that I have learnt this year and hold on to only one it is that you cannot get time back and that piece of it that you have should be used wisely whilst also enjoying it to the max. This year I WILL be making Christmas cocktails and sharing the recipes with you of course!

Tea at Fortnum’s with a friend

When I think of Fortnum’s I think of fine wines, foods and of course tea. Of course there is a lot more to it than that but they are my favourite bits. The only friend that I think of when I think of this beautiful place is of course the beautiful Catherine. We have a little tradition of visiting Cath Kidston and popping to the tea hall at Fortnum’s afterwards. The next visit we make will be to The Diamond Jubilee Tea Salon followed by a visit to The Parlour.

Winter Wonderland

Christmas lights, an ice skating rink and churros – what more could you want!

Christmas Market

There is something about the festive chill of the air, quirkiness of the stalls and the smell – or is that just me? There is a certain smell of Christmas that lingers and wafts in just the right way, whether that is the smell of mulled wine or pine.

Make some Gingerbread men

This is something that if I’m honest I can never be bothered to buy so find it a lot easier to just pick up a packet from good ol’ Sainsbury’s. This year however it would be nice to make my own and see how good they taste when fresh. Not being a fan of soft cookies it will most definitely be an experience – but one that I am willing to partake in.

There are a couple of other things that I would like to do but I’m not sure that they will get done before Christmas so I’ll keep those to myself for now.

What’s on your Christmas list?!

It’s DECEMBER!

I don’t know about you but for me this year has really just flown by and some of it seems to have escaped me. With a traumatic start to the year I honestly didn’t know where I would end up, but as we approach the final hurdle I can safely say – I have survived. Just about!

As it is the first day of December I can’t think of a better reason to blast out some of my favourite Christmas songs! (Even though I have been secretly playing them as soon as Halloween was over!). There are many songs out there that tug on the heartstrings but they also bring about an infinite amount of joy so with that in mind . . .

This is one of the prime examples that really does catch you at the back of your throat and tug on those heart strings. However, you cannot deny that you know the words and belt it out over and over before the month is out. This classic has been on my playlist for many years and will continue to be for many more.

Another absolute belter of a tune that I am sure you have all be acquainted with in pubs, clubs and even shops recently. Mariah is one of those that can hit higher notes than even dogs can hear so I though in a bid to clean out those pipes and tune in those ears this was the perfect second song for my list.

There are a million reasons for picking this song but the main one is because it is just so bloody lovely. One of friends (colleagues!) loves this song and if she is getting in the car to keep her quiet I stick this on full blast – it never works because she likes to do her own rendition. Moving on!

Last year my dad sat at his computer and started playing this over and over. Not only was the original one of his favourites but he loved the composition of this cover and just couldn’t stop playing it. This song will be on my list for a very long time if not forever.
