A list of things to do in December to prepare for Christmas, My December To Do List, December, Organisation, December To Do List, BlogMas, Fay Simone, Blogger, Covent Garden, London, Love London, Christmas at Covent Garden

Happy 1stDecember you lovely lot – I haven’t been around for a while despite my last post about getting back into the game. BUT I have a very valid reason for my absence! I HAD A BABY – yes peeps it’s not just me anymore, I am responsible for another human. However, the month of December is upon us and time is flying by at an alarming rate. It has been a long year but the past month seems to have vanished into thin air so I have no doubt that this month will be gone in a wink so I am trying to get through my December to do list before things get on top of me.

My December To Do List

Put Tree Up | The tree is in the box and ready to be put up, it’s just finding the time between looking after baby and the rest of life. Once the tree is up and we have all of the decorations out it really does start to feel Christmassy around here. We are a little late on the organisation side of things this year – blame the baby!

Write Christmas Cards | Usually by this time I have a list of cards to write and have reached the half way mark – once again it’s the baby! That being said my list is not far off complete and I have my cards and stationery ready and waiting.

Fill Christmas Eve box| The box I chose wasn’t massive so there may be an additional bag in the mix, but my aim is to fill it with some awesome little Christmas treats for bub and me. There will be a post about what goes into the box so keep your eyes peeled.

Christmas Market | I love a good Christmas market and there are so many good ones out there. I’d love to get up to Winter Wonderland, but I might stay a little closer to home and head to Winterville – looking at some of the pictures from last year it looks so cute. If you have been, I’d love to know how it went for you?!

Christmas Movie Marathon | It’s time to get out all of my favourite Christmas movies as well as other favourite films and plot up for the day. This is the perfect day to snack throughout the day, so it is the perfect opportunity to get all of my favourite foods and just veg out. Once again there will be a post of what is on my list. Do you have a favourite Christmas film?

Wrap presents with Christmas soundtrack | This has been a tradition in our house for so many years and it really does mean that Christmas is just around the corner. Our album of choice is Christmas with Nat & Dean and although it is on repeat whilst wrapping it doesn’t get annoying. Do you have a favourite Christmas song?

List of Appreciation | This may sound a little bit odd but this year I have had a lot to be grateful for and I look forward to listing it all, so it is there in front of me. It hasn’t been the easiest year and there have been a lot of things that haven’t gone according to plan, but I am so grateful for everything that has gone right. What are you grateful for that has happened this year?

Of course, there are other things that happen across the course of the month, but these are the main branches to the tree (see what I did there – ok! Mum joke!).

This time is forever more going to be a time of year that is that little bit darker for me than the rest. With dad passing things got dark very quickly last year and I was most definitely not looking forward to this Christmas but as the year passed things got that little bit easier.

There have definitely been dark days and happy times in our household.

Then on the 14th December the shade came again. I cannot mention the name of the person but they were incredibly special because they helped a lot of people in ways that some do not even know yet. This person was one that made everyones day a little brighter without even saying a word – a smile, a hand to hold and even just a wink.

This person made you aim for the best and forget about the worst. With all of the insignificant little things in the world that people make a big deal out of perspective was something that this individual could make you pick out with a fine tooth comb. They will be missed most of all by their family but also by the entire medical and nursing team on our unit/theatres.

Darker times seem to be coming thick and fast the older I get but with that in mind I will persevere and hope for the best in 2018. This may or may not be my last post of 2017 but for now it feels like things have been rounded up as I am loving Insta, Twitter but the blog is really taking it out of me. Let’s see shall we!

As much as the festive cheer can play a part in bringing people together it can also be an extremely lonely time for those that have either lost someone, never had anyone or even has that special someone who they are going through a difficult time with. For some Festive Love may be the last thing on their minds.

This post is just a little reminder to all of us that everyone deals with emotions in different ways and one of the most scary thoughts can sometimes be loneliness. Dealing with loneliness can be very hard and sometimes people do not like to admit it. With that in mind I am most definitely going to be a more mindful with regards to those around me at this time of year and even in my work life where my dear patients and relatives are stuck in hospital at what is meant to be one of the most wonderful times of the year.

After a nice long chat with one of dear friends yesterday we both realised that at this time of year not only is it imperative that we are spending time with the people that we love and cherish but it is also a time where you need to look after YOU. The word stress isn’t something that you would think should be associated with the festive season but you know what it can be one the most stressful times of the year.

Over the years the pressure of getting that perfect gift seems to have skyrocketed where as the pressure to value friendship, love and goodwill has plummeted. This is just wrong. The festive season is one where we should be surrounding ourselves with family, friends and the warmth and love that all of the above bring. The 4 U’s of Christmas are incredibly important when thinking about how to care for yourself and those around you.

Unwind

Time to run yourself a nice hot bath, light some candles and get some fresh pyjamas ready. It is time to turn off your phones, laptops and any other technology and really and truly take a break from life on the outside world. When you switch off not only are you giving your eyes a rest but also your brain.

Unburden

TALK. Taking time out of your life to sit down and have a conversation with a close friend or even someone who is completely unconnected to your life and friendship groups. When you start to talk you will notice that the things you were most unwilling to let loose will just slip out and you will begin to feel much better about the most difficult situations.

This also applies to not taking on responsibility for other peoples problems with life as this can really make you feel down for no reason whatsoever. When you let all of this go you will feel like a weight has been lifted and you may even feel a little renewed.

Understand

Sometimes you need to understand that it really is not the time to be around other people. Everyone has their own issues in life and sometimes they just need a little bit of space. Personally being an only child I know that I enjoy my own company more than I enjoy spending time with most people, luckily for me I have a pretty great group of friends who also understand this.

Understanding also comes from knowing yourself and knowing when to slow down and take some time out for yourself. Understanding when it is time for you to let your body take a break.

Under My Duvet

Just do it!

From one of my friends to me and all of you

‘Make sure “U” take some time out for “U” so “U” can be the best “U” that “U” can be this Christmas. Love yourself today so you can share that love with others around you.

Merry Christmas Y’All!

Monday Motivation is always welcome in my life as I am sure it is in yours. So, I thought it might be a nice idea to share some ‘Merry Monday Motivation‘ in the hope of getting everyone in a bit more of a Christmassy spirit than they already are. Between tinsel, naughty elves and a ridiculously large amount of twinkle lights my Christmas spirit is fit to BURST.

FRESH & CLEAN

When you have a clean house you will most likely feel better about yourself and anything that you are planning to do next. You know the saying ‘Tidy House, Tidy Mind‘ – it really is true. Much like having a blank canvas, although it can be quite daunting it is actually pretty great to have a fresh outlook on things before undertaking a new task.

GO EASY

Seriously, go easy on yourself. When you put extra pressure on yourself to get things done you will be much less productive and chances are you won’t get a sniff of a tick on that long ass to do list you got going on. Take a step back, breath, make a coffee, text a friend and allow your brain to rest of a minute or two. After you have settled in a calm space (mind, body , spirit and all that!) then you will be able to take on whatever task you have in mind to the best of your ability.

SHARE THE LOAD

After you have made your list, go through it from the top but with the idea of delegation. Delegation really is a leaders best friend and although this post has sod all to do with leadership daily life actually does. You are the leader of your daily life and if you can delegate even the smallest task to someone else or to another time for yourself then you may find that you won’t be so stressed out and actually get it done instead of watching it go on list after list. After all sharing is caring!

WRITE IT DOWN

I’m sure it is not just me that suffers from that moment in time where you know you have something important to do but you just can’t quite remember what it is. Well, welcome to my world or constant organised disorganisation! I have about 10 million notebooks and only one brain – so I try and use one piece of paper per day so I don’t mix myself up and I also use the notes section on my phone if I have to. My calendar is an app on my phone that really should get used more but I have only recently discovered how good it actually is to have everything synced up. On that note …

SYNC YOUR LIFE

Sounds ridiculous especially for someone who uses technology on a daily basis. BUT even those of us that literally live through our computers and phones have to be reminded every now and then to sync and reboot. That goes for your phones, laptops, iPads etc. If you have a piece of tech that can sync just do it. I am quite selective with my syncs as I have a lot of stuff that I would prefer to keep in just one place. That being said having my calendar everywhere is a great plus point.

DOWNTIME

This is where I harp on a little more about taking a much needed break. Even though it is the general consensus that technology rules the world you can have a day off. It is not the end of the world if an insta post that you are loving doesn’t get posted today bang on the hour. Save it, put the phone down and chill. Take some time for just you.
