#TGIF is definitely warranted this week!

For the first time in quite a while I can say TGIF. This week has most definitely been one of the longest I have had in a while and with all of the Christmas pomp on top it’s almost tipped me over the edge. It has been great to get the tree up, decorate the house and even get myself in gear for Secret Santa but I as I wake up slowly on my day off today I am looking forward to nothing more than a chilled morning watching a Christmas film and lots of coffee.

It’s another day of #BLOGMAS folks! Day 7!

What is your favourite Christmas Comfort Food?

I’m not sure about you but a good portion of enjoying the ‘festive period’ is the indulgence in all of those naughty little tasty treats that are so easily at my disposal. From a cheeky little mince pie to a full on gut bash of a 2 person portion of home made Mac ‘n’ Cheese the festive period is one that I must admit I look forward to.

Going back to the delectable Mac’n’Cheese mentioned above the other day I decided that instead of cooking for dinner I would treat myself and that is exactly what I did. Close to my house there is an American diner that luckily does takeaway food so I ordered their Mac’n’Cheese with every intention of curling up in my PJ’s with a Christmas film on in the background and scoffin’ the lot.

Minus the Christmas film I gave it a good go and was not disappointed, granted I could barely move for about 20 minutes afterwards the girl did good. There are a number of tasty treats that I love to have around this time of year such as

Camembert – This stuff when baked with warm crusty bread can be the most satisfying thing.

Lebkuchen – When I was younger I was never a fan but now I cannot get enough of the stuff.

Mince Pies – Not the shortcrust ones, no sir! It has to be the good ol’ puff pastry ones!

Shortbread – Any which way up it comes I LOVE it! The more butter the better!

Of course there are many other foodie bits that will grace our tables but those are the four that spring to mind and that have made it on my shopping list for tonights trip to the store.

What is your go to Christmas Comfort Food?

It’s time for a good ol’ dose of Christmas cheer folks!

BlogMas doesn’t usually happen without one so let’s get on with it shall we?!

It’s #BLOGMAS Day 6 with The Christmas Tag!

  1. Is your Christmas tree real or fake?

This year my Christmas tree is real, last year and for many before that it was a beautiful fibre optic one that was so easy to put together, take apart and even store (I kinda miss it!). As good as it is having a real tree it is PAINFUL to decorate, unless you have reptilian skin!

  2. What is your favourite Christmas movie?I have a selection of favourite Christmas movies – BlogMas Day 2 was dedicated to that so check it out by clicking HERE.
  3. Do you have any traditions at Christmas? If so, what is your most cherished?

Christmas traditions/habits in our house for the actual day itself have always been – wake up in the morning and have breakfast of  Champagne with smoked salmon and scrambled eggs. Stick on Father Christmas (The film) and have him on in the background whilst either chillin with breakfast or getting ready for the day.

Mum and I in recent years used to cook together until she stopped cooking Christmas dinner (we would go to her bowling club). Christmas stockings are opening in the morning after breakfast and presents from under the tree are done after Christmas dinner and the queens speech.

After all the pizazz we hunker down with the rest of the Christmas films and just chill together with lots of champagne and food.

  4. Do you open any presents on Christmas Eve?

We open all presents on Christmas day as mentioned above – stockings in the morning and under the tree presents in the afternoon.

  5. What is your favourite Christmas song/carol?Favourite Christmas song is a hard one to pin point but the two that most remind me of my dad are:

    – Jona Lewie – Stop the Cavalry

    – Pentatonix – Little Drummer Boy

  6. What decoration do you place at the very top of your tree?

It used to be a very sad looking angel made out of lace or some such material (very sad looking!). This year we bought a new star which is so beautiful that I am actually proud to put it on the tree.

  7. What is your favourite festive drink?I used to love a Starbucks Egg Nog latte but as my tastes in coffee has changed I am not really a fan of the sickly-sweet taste that masks the coffee. So even though my choice of drink is sweeter it is actually meant to be – a nice hot chocolate with all the trimmings.
  8. How do you plan what to buy people as gifts? Plan it out in a list or just shop til you drop?I have a list for pretty much everything and usually try to plan throughout the year by writing notes on what people tell me that they like and cross it out if they buy it before Christmas! This year I haven’t been that organised but I did a lot of my Christmas shopping in the states whilst I was away.
  9. When do you open your presents? In the morning or at night? As I said before a little bit of both! Stocking presents in the morning and real presents in the late afternoon.
  10. When do you start to get excited about Christmas?I don’t think I am ever NOT excited! Really and truly though it all starts for me around the end of September as I plan for Halloween and then as that isn’t really an entire season after the one day is over it is Christmas all the way.
  11. *BONUS QUESTION* – What are you most excited for this year over the Christmas season?Making new memories and honouring those that there were made when dad was still with us.

The Christmas Tag was found over on Abby Claire’s Blog

I hope you take part and if you do tag us both – I had so much fun filling this out as I’m sure you will!

O Christmas tree, O Christmas tree,
Thy candles shine out brightly!
O Christmas tree, O Christmas tree,
Thy candles shine out brightly!

Each bough doth hold its tiny light,
That makes each toy to sparkle bright.
O Christmas tree, O Christmas tree,
Thy candles shine out brightly!

For a few years now we have had a fibre optic tree that has come apart in two particular places making it incredibly easy to store as well as put together. With a separate branch selection to the main trunk it really was a quick but painless job to put the tree together. The additional bonus of a fibre optic tree is that you don’t really need any extra lights unless you want to really go for the blinding effect that some lights have.

This year, things have changed – not only has our beautiful fibre optic friend no longer with us we have had to enter the realm of lights, lights and more lights. After moving on from the swift farewell of our previous tree we decided in our infinite wisdom that we would purchase a real tree. We bundled up against the elements (we don’t live in Alaska so it was a coat and scarf!) and headed out to find our Christmas tree. I don’t know about you but it really is a very personal experience finding the tree that is just right for your household whether it is real or not. There are many factors that have to be taken into account – height, weight, girth etc (get your minds out of the gutter!).

After a short drive we arrived at Woodcote Green Garden Centre & Nurseries which is not only a mouthful to say but when you are trying to navigate whilst being jostled here there and everywhere by a weekend crowd isn’t fun in the slightest. You may or may not know that I am not the best in a crowd that has no purpose so I tried to steer the Madre and myself the best I could to find our darling tree before someone got hurt. Through the farm shop, past the children breaking ornaments, around the tempting smells of the cafe and past the reindeer and we were where we wanted and needed to be.

Finally we found our tree – decorations are the next step!

Have you got your Christmas tree yet?

Do you have a favourite film? Here’s another question for you – do you have a favourite Christmas film?

For as long as I can remember it has been a tradition in my household to watch films on Christmas Day with champagne, snacks and blankets. This year will be a completely different story, not only because dad is no longer with us but I am working throughout the Christmas period. So, when I have finished my shifts I will be View Full Post
