GIVEAWAY: Goody Bag with Popular by Maya Van Wagenen

The lovely people from Penguin put on a lovely vintage themed party for the interview of the lovely Maya Van Wagenen by the awesome Jo Elvin (Glamour Editor). Whilst there we were all given goody bags with a copy of the book and the opportunity to have a little chat with Maya and get her to sign her book. The lovely Maya signed a copy for me and personalised it and also signed two more copies for my readers.

The book is receiving rave reviews and Maya is truly inspirational especially for her age. She seems wise beyond her years and a pleasure to listen to when speaking. This young lady is poised and ready for action and I am pretty sure there will be a lot of that on the literary scene as she is well and truly on fire.

On the night we were given the hashtag WWBD – little did I know that when I actually checked on the social networking feeds that was also being used for What Would Beyoncé Do? – Quite frankly as fabulous as Beyoncé is I couldn’t give a rats backside what she would do in her current situation as it is none of my business. So with attention back on the lovely Maya we cracked on!

Thanks to the lovely Nick from Power Cases I actually found out that this was on. I really do need to concentrate more on the social scene for events and such things! Killing two birds (no animals were harmed during the writing of this post – had to be said!) so to speak as I had to pick up some bits for other people I headed off to the show just to collect and run. HOWEVER – once there with the press room calling I got my golden ticket and was away like wildfire with my camera. This post is going to be heavy on the photos and light on the words. So this is what I saw on the day . . .

old skool

In a little corner these lovely vintage looking items were placed. My only problem was the price tag being almost £10k!!!

garden loving

So many beautiful things for the garden and pretty much something for every corner of a broad imagination and a lot of money.

kitchen crazy

for the love of vodka

a little pizzazz

light

That’s about it from my little trip to Grand Designs! There were some amazing sights but overall I have to say most of the stuff is heavily over priced and most people would most likely be able to reproduce if a little effort was put in!

Did you go? If so what was your favourite part? Did you buy anything?

2nd & Not Last Read-A-Thon

Yesterday marked the end of my second and most definitely not last read-a-thon. Dewey’s Read-A-Thon is international and a whole host of people joined in the fun of setting themselves colossal reading goals. Some read for charity and others just for fun. For the second time I was lucky enough to be a co-host and once again the experience was truly amazing. Being able to converse with and cheer on so many different readers in just a two-hour period was great. There are blogs that have been added to my reading list and I am sure that I will be reading for a long time to come.

Not only is it a collective of bibliophiles but within that community of book lovers friendships have started or been cemented from previous talks and word is spread far and wide that the book community is here to stay. There has been controversy that has been slightly damning to the reputation of book bloggers vs ‘real’ critics. Personally as a book blogger I think it is sad that people find it necessary to say such hurtful things about people who just really like to read and share their opinions with each other. However as we live in a society of ‘kick a man whilst he is down’ such is life.

Moving on from the negativity this Read-A-Thon provided myself and over 700 others the excuse to block out the real world and settle in with as many good books as our eyes could rest on.

My final number is a meagre 1.5 as I am still reading the second book however between tweeting for support, instagramming and just generally keeping an eye out on the social side of things my reading was abandoned slightly. It didn’t help that I also overslept but hey ho!

If you have taken part in Dewey’s Read-A-Thon please do get in contact as I would love to hear about your experience. If you were unable to take part there will be another one in October – for dates check the Read-A-Thon websiteIf there are any other Read-A-Thon’s that you are thinking about taking part in please do let me know as any excuse to sack of daily chores and read is welcome over here!

Now I will leave you with a little tune that has been a favourite for some time and just popped into my head as I was writing this post! It is a slight change from the original!

Read-a-thon Finish Line

I am having a little party over here at Blog A Book Central! I have made it through another Read-A-Thon and am feeling über great! As I have only made it through one book and steadily going through my second I will be extending my read-a-thon a little longer as I would like to make a bigger dent in my reading pile!

For those of you that have read a colossal amount of pages, listened to the so much audio you cannot physically listen to any more or you have been tirelessly cheering everyone on . . .

WELL DONE HAND

Here are some tunes that I think are appropriate for this time of the thon!

This is how most of us probably feel where all the lines are truly blurred but you know what – sit back listen and relax YOU HAVE DONE IT! #Winner!

This is a slightly older song than most that I am listening to right now but it really is just great! We have all made it this far into the Read-A-Thon and we really are TITANIUM! How cheesy am I!!!

Are you having a good time! Did you have a good time! I did! Let’s do it all again next time!

This song has made many cry with joy including the wonderful artist Pharell! I love this song because it makes me very Happy – does what it says on the tin!

I have to dedicate this song to my friend Catherine – she loves it as much as I do!

I will be back later today commenting, following and all that jazz. So . . .

peace out yall
