For four days The Old Truman Brewery just off Brick Lane played host to The London Coffee Festival 2017. The golden opportunity for coffee connoisseurs and neophytes alike to indulge in that delicious brown nectar we all know and some of us love ‘COFFEE’ was upon us. Even if you coffee is not your thing there were a plethora of other treats on offer. The sheer volume was quite overwhelming let alone the amount of visitors that the festival attracted. With over 30,000 people attending this year ‘coffee’ was definitely the most popular hashtag of the day/weekend – that alongside #LondonCoffeeFestival #LCF17 #LoveCoffee.

From Roasting to Latte Art the creme de la creme of the coffee world were there front and centre with some truly spectacular demonstrations and workshops that were available for all to see and get involved. Sadly I was only able to see the action on the big screen they had available for those that could not get a piece of the action up close and personal (hence the lack of pictures!).

On entering the festival I was given a wristband, goody bag and map and sent off to enjoy the festivities at my leisure. The smell was to die for and something that I really did enjoy, the heat from all of the machines however is something that I was not at all prepared for (please guys get some ventilation for next time!). Although I am no barista I have a varied interest in coffee and appreciate the bean so it was very interesting to see not only the many different types of coffee but the ways it can be brewed. I have always been a coffee with milk and two sugars kinda girl but since visiting this phenomenal place my tastes have changed quite a bit. Out of the many stalls that I visited there were a couple that really stuck with me not only for the taste of the coffee but also the people and activities available.

HER Coffee

This particular brand really surprised me as I have never been a fan of cold brew coffee – just something about it that I couldn’t entirely get my head around. These guys however have me sold on the idea, so much so that I walked away with their largest available bottle of the stuff and a week later already need to get myself a refill!

Union Coffee

Coffee matching, grinding, tasting and general appreciation of coffee were on the menu in the Union Coffee corner of the room. Whilst I was there I attempted to match the coffees and came oh so close but still one step too far from actually solving the mystery that is coffee. All of them of course tasted absolutely divine.

Baileys

This stand really doesn’t need an explanation now does it?! I mean Bailey’s! Ok so they had Baileys Iced Latte & Mocha cans but also cocktails on offer. The one thing that really got me were the ice lollies! Not only because of the insane temperature inside but BAILEYS ICE CREAM! Serious noms right there!

Hotel Chocolat

For those of you that aren’t really into coffee Hotel Chocolat introduced Teaolat to the festival and oh my life was it an exhibition within itself. I have never seen so much chocolate in one place in my life! There was a TOWER of chocolate, seriously guys a TOWER that was bigger than most very tall individuals.

Overall, I managed to inhale about 10 shots of coffee, before moving onto the secret garden to purchase one of the most delicious and aesthetically pleasing cocktails I have seen in a long time. If you haven’t been to a London Coffee Festival before my advice to you would be

  • Get a ticket (early bird if possible)
  • Get down there quite early
  • Make yourself a timetable for the activities going on
  • With your timetable prep yourself to get up front for the activities for a good view
  • Don’t drive so you can enjoy yourself
  • Go with a friend – it can get incredibly lonely even if you do meet awesome people
  • Keeping that timetable in mind plan out what you want to photograph with your camera, get your pics then use your phone for the rest so you don’t miss too much.
