Easter is here guys and it is time for some to kick back relax and revel in that extra couple of days away from work. Although I had Friday off I can’t say that I will be enjoying a care free Monday but small mercies for those days that I have had and got to spend with A. The weather this weekend has been a typical Spring in England – blue skies and sunshine followed by full on showers and hale stones only to return to the blue skies and sunshine once again. Thankfully I decided on Friday that it was going to be a natural hair kinda weekend so the rain didn’t really bother me but it really isn’t nice being out and getting drenched so unexpectedly.
For a couple of weeks now I have been wanting to get back to the beautiful and infamous Columbia Road Flower Market. When I am staying with A it is incredibly easy to get to as it is only about a 10 minute drive and if you know where to park there are usually one or two tight spots to squeeze into. This week I had a plan which required two walks, one for pictures of the beautiful spring time blooms and the other for purchasing my wares. Firstly I stopped off at Caffe In which I previously stumbled across many visits ago now but always seems to be closed when I have been to the market since – imagine the joy in my heart at seeing the shutters up! Trust me when I say this their coffee really is heavenly, there are few places that I will drink a cup of coffee without sugar in it and this is one of them.
So, Flat White in hand I wrapped myself up in my scarf and made my way to the oncoming refreshing sensory overload that is otherwise known as Columbia Road Flower Market. With more colours than your average rainbow on display this place once again has me stunned into silence. Earphones in, Linkin’ Park playing and I was on the road to Insta heaven. Every bloggers dream with a peony here and freshly cut rose there the traders screeching their deals for everyone to hear and little ol’ me weaving through the expectant crowd of those in search for some spring time blooms to freshen up their homes or to give as a last minute Easter gift.
With my first walk under way I was a happy camper snapping away and thinking about what I was going to snap up on the way back. There were cameras coming out of every direction and it really did make me smile, the effort that some people go to just to pop by and take a couple of snaps without even buying one solitary bloom to brighten their day. Trench coats and long skirts with boots seemed all the rage with oversized sunglasses and statement bags to boot I was in my element. Sunnies on and head down my second walk of the day was in play and my mind was made up. Three bouquets of tulips, 3 bouquets of peonies and some pussy willow with eucalyptus (from Saffron Flowers – I think?!) later and I was trotting back to the car and grabbing some last minute pics.
Finally back at my car and feeling extremely elated with my gorgeous goodies from the trip down the road the heavens decided to open and I bundled myself into the car. Moving on with some Motown I made my way home, thankful that I was still dry and that I had achieved my goal for today – new blooms!
Now for some food and more coffee at home with A and the rest of the day/evening is ours!
