It’s the most wonderful time of the year and it most definitely is a beautiful one from the Holly and the Ivy to the Pussy Willow down the stunning Columbia Road Flower Market on a Sunday. Last week between the Christmas jumpers and steaming cups of coffee and a side of cake shoppers and sellers alike were out in full force. I have been patiently waiting since mid November to get down to the market and grab so beautiful winter berries and other such festive items.
About a month ago I purchased quite a tall vase (not that this was essential information!) and after having quite a bit of coloured sand with fake twigs and fairy lights I decided it was time for a change. The little variety above is what made it home and into my vase, obviously I didn’t just dump them in (there was a lot of cutting and faffing involved!), instead I ‘delicately’ arranged them and I have to say slight impressed myself. If you ever need a little inspiration to perk up your space or just day in general take a walk down this fabulous road on a Sunday and there is something for everyone, even the man in your life who likes to just buy useful (less!) items to put in his beloved man draw of doom.
At this time of the year with such festive goodies on show I always think of my dear mummy, she is such a Christmas lover which I where I believe I get my adoration for the season not just the big week to come. Every year for as long as I can remember once all the shopping is done and we are ready to wrap Dad is banished to the living room with a glass of champagne and his TV whilst we shut the door to the dining room stick on our favourite Christmas album – Christmas with Nat & Dean – if you haven’t heard it then seriously you need to give it an ear. Whilst in our little haven (the dining room!) we settle with some baileys and the a rather large pile of wrapping paper. The time that I get to spend with my mum at this point really is unforgettable as we are best friends and family which is wonderful and can sit and chat for so long. Do you have any Christmas traditions?
Back to the market! Whilst out and about I decided to do a little exploring. After my last trip to Columbia Road I popped some snaps on Instagram and had a little shufty at what everyone else was up to – of course. It seemed that Lily Vanilli was the place to be on a Sunday at Columbia Road and I didn’t know where it was. Turns out that it was literally around the corner from where I have walked many a time. Secluded in a little alcove Lily Vanilla Bakery is a haven for those that are feeling a little weary after their Sunday mooch and need replenishment of good coffee and cake. Some of you might know of the infamous name from the Sweet Tooth book that was realised in 2012. If you are around the Columbia Road area this is definitely a place to go.
Yet another Sunday has rolled around and we are heading back to Columbia Road to get some more festive bits for my lovely mummy dearest. Whilst we are there it would be rude not to pop into Vanilli’s for a coffee so keep your peepers opened for some updates on my Instagram feed.
